Introducing New Metrics for Live Video

Today we announced some exciting updates for Facebook Live, giving publishers and people new ways to create, share and discover live video on Facebook.

We know that understanding live viewership is important to publishers and creators, so today we’re also rolling out two new video metrics: peak live viewers during a broadcast, and a new chart showing the number of concurrent live viewers over time during a broadcast. These new metrics follow the updates we announced last month that give Page owners a better understanding of when people are watching their videos.

We’ve heard that publishers want to understand how long it takes people to tune in to a live broadcast, how many viewers a broadcast has at its peak, how many viewers are staying, and when they’re dropping off. Starting today, Page owners can access these metrics for their live videos:

These new metrics are available through Page Insights and your Video Library— and coming to the API & export soon. Simply click on the live video you’d like to see metrics for, and you’ll find the Live Broadcast Audience in a new tab. Click the tab to find the Viewers During Live Broadcast interactive chart.

We hope these new metrics help publishers and creators as they experiment with this new medium. We’re listening to feedback and will continue to improve the video metrics we offer to Page owners.

Update 4/27/16: In response to feedback from video publishers, today we’re replacing the Live Broadcast Audience metric with a new metric: Peak Concurrent Viewers. Peak Concurrent Viewers is the highest number of concurrent viewers watching the video while it was live, and this is a metric we’ve heard that Page owners want to see. Tapping on the Peak Concurrent Viewers will take you to Viewers During Live Broadcast, a visual representation of the number of viewers during each moment of the live broadcast.
