For over two weeks this summer, the national teams of over 200 countries will come together in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to play in the Rio 2016 Games.

Whether you’re watching the Games in Rio or glued to a telecast half a world away, Facebook and Instagram are where millions of passionate fans are joining the conversation to connect, engage and discover relevant content about the event.

To celebrate the lead up to the Opening Ceremony on August 5th, the Christ the Redeemer landmark was illuminated on July 28 with projected photos from the City of Rio’s Instagram account. This big event was hosted by Instagram and Team Brazil with a exclusive pocket show from Ivete Sangalo, Brazilian singer and Team Brazil ambassador. The projection was also broadcast on Facebook Live to allow anyone outside of Rio to join the event.

For those who missed last night’s event, the Christ will also be illuminated during the Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony (August 21st) of the Games. The projection can be seen from different parts of the city, as well as on Facebook and Instagram.
